History

The Northern Clubs Federation Brewery (later the Federation Brewery) was founded in 1919 and initially located in Alnwick before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne in 1921. The brewery eventually moved to a new, larger facility in Dunston, Gateshead in 1980. It became a key part of the Scottish & Newcastle Breweries after being acquired in 2004, and then closed in 2010 after Heineken acquired it.

The brewery production site was cleared in 2013 making way for future development, however the building that housed the offices of the chairman and his team remain and The Fed as an entertainment venue is reborn.
